Discover the hidden gem of coffee production in Colombia - Planados Tolima! Nestled between the stunning Parques Nacionales Natural Nevado and Parque Nacional Natural Cordillera De Los Pichachos Andes Mountain ranges, this region is one of the most isolated coffee-growing areas in Colombia.

Reaching Planados Tolima is a journey - the only way in is through the town of Coyaima, which is only accessible by a 12-hour drive on a dirt road from the provincial capital of Ibague. Despite the challenges of accessibility, the area holds a rich and vibrant coffee-growing culture.

For many years, Planados Tolima was a forgotten region, caught in the middle of conflict and controlled by the FARC. However, the people of the region have persevered, with the area now renowned for producing some of the finest specialty micro-lot and commercial community coffees in Colombia.

Coffee grown in Planados Tolima is known for its exceptional flavor, with notes of red/yellow fruits, herbs, citrus, lemon, deep chocolate, and panela. This full-bodied coffee boasts excellent acidity, balance, and a remarkable aftertaste. It is grown the artisanal way, fully washed and fermented for up to 3 hours, sun-dried, and hand-selected for quality.

The Planadas area is made up of 48 coffee-producing hamlets and 6821 small farms ranging from 5 to 6 hectares. With an average cupping score of 85-88, it is no wonder that this region is quickly gaining a reputation for producing high-quality coffee.
