For this lot from Colombia we have teamed up with John Frater and his wife Claudia from the Green Coffee Collection. John has a long history in coffee, from setting up a roastery in South Africa to a brief spell owning his own coffee farm near Armenia in central Colombia, which brought about a steep learning curve about the numerous challenges our hard-working producers face.

Since 2015 John and Claudia have been working with the very remote communities around Planadas, Tolima, right in the heart of one of the best coffee growing regions of Colombia. This area was very much under the control of the FARC, (Colombia’s Armed Rebel Army) for many years, meaning it was off limits for many Colombians let alone foreigners. Since the peace talks however, things have changed rapidly in Colombia, and although there are still many challenges, the communities around Planadas, with the help of the Green Collection, are now selling coffee directly to roasters in the UK.

The Green Collection’s commitment to traceability, sustainability and sociability marries wonderfully with our philosophy here at Poblado Coffi. We hope to continue to support their mission in working directly with farmers to produce sustainably grown coffee that ensures social and economic development for the producers.
